The story finds (Sylvester Stallone) serving time in a labor camp until his former commander, Colonel Sam Trautman (Richard Crenna), offers him a deal: a presidential pardon in exchange for a reconnaissance mission to Vietnam. His task is strictly to photograph a suspected camp of American POWs (Prisoners of War), not to engage the enemy.
