You hook up a second monitor. Windows gives you the ability to extend the display. Great. You want a different wallpaper on each screen? You have to manually stitch them together in a photo editor or set them to "Span," which stretches the image awkwardly. You want a taskbar on the second screen? You get a stripped-down version that doesn't show you what is actually open on that screen. You want a specific app to always open on a specific monitor? Good luck; Windows will usually dump it on the primary display, regardless of where you last used it.
