"Squirrels" refers to the release group that originally dumped (copied) the game cartridge data onto the internet back in the early 2000s. In the scene, different groups would compete to release the cleanest, earliest versions of games. The "Squirrels" release became the standard for Pokemon FireRed because it was a perfect, 1:1 copy of the original USA cartridge.
